Alice and Alice are 60-something and have lived a full life together – in secret. But now they´re coming out. Finally. A playwright spotted them kissing one another in Crumlin Shopping Centre in Dublin and asked if they´d be willing to go on stage, in front of an audience, and tell their story. That´s why they´re in a show, reluctantly, but ready to share with the audience their journey to get there; something they’ve never dared to before!
With a gentle poke at the – sometimes – desperate search for authenticity in theatre, upcoming Irish playwright and actress, Amy Conroy, tells a true love story, exploring the notions of honesty and integrity by using the forms and structures of documentary theatre. A funny and moving piece!
Amy Conroy wrote and directed I ♥ Alice ♥ I in 2010 and was honoured with the Dublin Fringe Award. Last February the show was revived for a run at the Abbey Theatre where Conroy is on the “Abbey New Playwrights Programme”. The play was presented at the Irish Arts Center in New York earlier this year. Amy Conroy was also nominated to the Irish Theatre Award 2012 for her solo performance, Eternal Rising of the Sun.
