WORK IN PROGRESS SHOWCASE: Eden

Litla sviðið at the City Theater
5 PM

Our Eden exudes the scent of pike and freshly cut grass, accompanied by a pile of half-bitten apples in the corner. However, there is something peculiar, unsettling about our Eden. Adam & Eve deviate from their usual roles. In this piece, Embla Guðrúnar Ágústsdóttir and Nína Hjálmars explore the story of creation and inhabit the original orchard itself. Eden becomes a queer paradise that challenges societal norms and encourages viewers to embrace their own eroticism.

Embla Guðrúnar Ágústsdóttir (she/her) is a performer, independent scholar and activist who works within the intersection of disability and gender identity. Embla was nominated for Gríman 2023 as dancer of the year for her performance in the show Góða ferð inn í gömul sár.

Nína Hjálmars (she/they) is an artist, scholar, critic and producer. Nína is a lecturer and program director at the Performing Arts Department of the Iceland University of the Arts. Nína's research is in the field of decolonial theory and queer theory in the arts.

New event: FOR PALESTINE WATER TURNS ME ON FIRE – OPEN RESEARCH

The City Library at Úlfarsárdalur
1:30 PM – 4:00 PM

Íris Stefanía Skúladóttir

ATTENTION! This event will be subject to change. We leave the topic of mindfulness and dedicate this moment to people from Palestine who live in Iceland. Considering that a lot of artists from Palestine have been canceled from events where they were supposed to be in the spotlight and have been completely silenced, while people who publicly claim to support Israel are not, we want to offer this platform to those who are interested. We invite people from Palestine living in Iceland to use this platform to share their stories. The format is a traditional story circle and everyone is welcome who can show respect and is interested in listening and learning and sharing. We sit in a circle and we all introduce ourselves and if we want we can tell a little about ourselves. Then we give the floor to people from Palestine and listen. You can ask questions, but be sure to show respect. We are aware that this is an extremely sensitive issue and those attending may always stop talking, sit back and just listen or simply leave. There is no pressure to do anything you are not comfortable with. We currently have facilities in Úlfarsárdal, but the goal is to move closer to the city center. The event will be held in English. It is enough to register with Lókal to participate. Best regards, Iris

What makes you feel good? What turns you on? What inspires you?

In the open research Water that turns me on, Íris explores with guests what it is that turns us on so that we can learn to step more into pleasure in everyday life. By being better connected with our core essence (the child, the play, the sexual being, the animal), an easier path to creativity opens up.

Íris Stefanía Skúladóttir, is a performance artist who has worked with women’s bodies and lives in her work. She emphasizes pleasure, taboos, shame and desire in her works. Among other things, she has collected and published women’s masturbation stories and held story circles where stories related to the topic are told. She has done a radio theater piece about older women and their right to be sexual beings, a story circle about women who choose not to have children, and performances about ecosexuality and orgasmic birth.

How long can we ignore our problems? Or maybe they don't need to be called problems if we don't think about them?

Workshop participants are asked to bring 4 jars or tubes of sauce that have been sitting for ages in the fridge. Together, we will investigate the past and origin of the jars, and strive to create circumstances that convey their story. At the end, we are going to invite visitors to get to know the jars.

Kriðpleir has been working since 2012 and attracted a lot of attention with his works. Kriðpleir recently received a nomination for the European broadcasting award Prix Europa in the category of feature radio works for his work Sjálfsalinn.
